Son of 1Q Fundraising Thread

Everywhere at once:

  • LA-06:
  • Richard Baker (R-Inc.): $94k raised; $66k cash-on-hand

Wow, is that ever weak.  Considering that Baker is among the top tier of potential Republican candidates rumored to run against Sen. Mary Landrieu next year, this says a lot.  Is he that unenthusiastic to enter a high-profile slugfest?  In any case, he might want to watch himself: Katrina-related demographic changes have made his R+6.5 district a shade bluer.

  • PA-06:
  • Jim Gerlach (R-inc.): $213k raised; $107k cash-on-hand

Mediocre showing for Gerlach, who should never be considered safe in this tossup district.

  • MN-06:
  • Michelle Bachmann (R-inc.): $259k raised; $200k cash-on-hand

It remains to be seen whether or not Minnesota’s 6th district is suffering a serious case of buyer’s remorse after seeing their newly-elected Representative’s death-grip on President Bush on the House floor, or after her claim that she knows of a “secret plan” by Iran to partition Iraq.

  • KS-02:
  • Nancy Boyda (D-inc): $137k raised; $171k cash-on-hand
    Jim Ryun (R): $275k raised; $255k cash-on-hand

Oof, that’s a brutal, but unsurprising showing for Boyda.  Any freshman Democrat who occupies a district that Bush won by 20 points should be bracing for the fight of their lives in 2008.  By opting out of the DCCC’s Fronline incumbent protection program earlier in the year, Rep. Boyda has made it clear that she has other priorities, and other ideas on what it takes to win in a district this red.  Her saving grace could come from a nasty primary fight between Ryun and State Treasurer Lynn Jenkins, who comes from the so-called “moderate” wing of the Kansas GOP.  A bloodied Ryun as the Republican nominee would be her best bet for survival.

  • NM-01:
  • Heather Wilson (R-inc.): $274k raised; $250k cash-on-hand

You’re gonna need every penny, Heather…

  • KY-Sen:
  • Mitch McConnell (R-inc.): $1.7 million+ raised; $4.4 million cash-on-hand

Daaaaamn.  It looks like that blood money raised on his behalf by Bush himself can add up quickly.

  • PA-04:
  • Jason Altmire (D-inc.): $300k raised; $200k+ cash-on-hand

  • WA-08:
  • Darcy Burner (D): $17k raised; $38k cash-on-hand

  • NY-29:
  • Eric Massa (D): $7k raised; $2k cash-on-hand

  1. Because of the anticipated political rearrangement as a result of term limits and competitive reelection bids this October, I doubt anyone will announce for this seat until October or November of next year.  I do have a subscription to a local but comprehensive political report.  Was there is any speculation, I will keep you updated.

  2. The $5.9 million figure does not seem to be for the quarter.  As of 12/31/06, Mitch had $2.7 million cash on hand.  Now he has $4.4 million, an increase of $1.7 million.  http://www.tray.com/
He probably raised a bit more than $1.7 million as he probably spent some money too.

  3. to somehow get a lot more money than that.  To win her first reelection she needs to outraise the Republican by about 3 to 2 or more.

  4. So says the Guru:

Democratic Senator Mark Pryor took in $1.74M in Q1, with a cash-on-hand total clocking in at over $2M. How strong is that? To put it in perspective, the Morning News article notes that “Tim Hutchinson had $600,000 in his campaign bank account in 2001, the year before his loss to Pryor.” The article also mentions that former Governor Mike Huckabee only managed to raise $500K for his Presidential bid in Q1. Seems like a very strong showing for Senator Pryor.

  5. Adrian Smith (R-Inc.): $104k raised; $94k cash-on-hand.

Don’t count this race out just yet…

  6. From CT-02

U.S. Rep. Joe Courtney, D-2nd District, raised more than $300,000 in campaign funds during the first quarter of 2007, a record amount in the 2nd Congressional District for an incumbent or challenger.

Courtney’s FEC report, which will be filed on Sunday, will show just over $280,000 cash on hand and a $1,600 outstanding debt.

  7. The Detroit News:

Sen. Carl Levin raised nearly $1.5 million for his re-election campaign in the first three months of the year, a number likely to dim already-faint Republican hopes of unseating the veteran Democrat. …

Levin’s $1.46 million in money raised is comparable to other Senate incumbents who released totals this week. Sen. Mark Pryor, D-Ark., reported raising $1.8 million, and Sen. Elizabeth Dole, R-N.C., $1.7 million. Kansas Republican Pat Roberts, who like Levin is not expected to face serious opposition, raised more than $600,000.

    Great Falls Tribune:

Montana Rep. Denny Rehberg took in much less money than Democratic Sen. Max Baucus in the first three months of the year, raising questions about whether the Republican will mount a challenge against the five-term senator.

Rehberg raised $82,000 from January through March. Baucus, who is up for re-election next year, raised $1.1 million during the same time – almost 14 times Rehberg’s fundraising. He has raised a total of $4.4 million since he was last re-elected in 2002, and has $2.9 million in the bank.

Rehberg has not yet said whether he will challenge Baucus but has not ruled out a run. He has $300,000 in the bank.

    Senate 2008 Guru:

    Priceless.

  8. From “The Hill”:

“Congressional and campaign aides have confirmed that Rep. Ron Klein (D-Fla.) raised more than $500,000, as did Rep. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.).

Rep. Tim Mahoney (D-Fla.) could show he raised more than $400,000, and Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-Ariz.) raised more than $300,000. Rep. John Hall (D-N.Y.) raised $349,000, and second-term Democratic Reps. Jim Marshall (Ga.), John Barrow (Ga.) and Melissa Bean (Ill.) also raised more than $300,000.
      . . .
The highest-profile GOP freshman, Rep. Peter Roskam (Ill.) – who defeated Iraq war veteran Tammy Duckworth – has reported raising $227,000.”
